FAQs

Top Frequently Asked Epoxy Questions

  • How long does installation take?
On average, most flooring projects take a week. Some could take longer depending on the size of the project, type of system(s) installed and/or complexity of the project. Typically, preparation of the surface will take 1-3 days and then installation of floor coatings 3 – 5 days.
  • Can I do it myself?
True floor coatings should only be installed by trained professionals. Adequate floor preparation is critical to ensuring an effective surface solution. Professional installation companies like PermaTek Coatings have the knowledge and equipment to ensure proper testing and preparation is complete before installation begins.
  • Is it important to test the floor?
Absolutely. Most flooring failures are a result of too much moisture in the concrete. Testing of RH in concrete prior to floor coatings will greatly reduce risk of moisture related floor failure.
  • How do you prepare the floor?
We utilize a number of preparation methods depending upon the type of system being installed. Diamond grinding and centrifugal wheel blasting (shot-blasting) are the most common methods we use. Both equipment types have industrial vacuums hooked up to them with Hepa filters in an effort to minimize airborne dust.
  • Does it smell and is there anything harmful?
PermaTek primarily uses 100% solids materials. Occasionally we will use water -based primers and topcoats. The beauty of both is that they have no solvents or VOC's, so no harmful fumes or smells. When cured, the products are inert and not harmful to the environment.
  • Can this be installed in my existing practice or facility?
Because our products do not have solvents, they can be installed in areas of the facility that are being shut down while other areas remain open. There are logistical challenges that need to be discussed, but renovation of existing facilities is part of what we do.
